Pregnancy can be tough for a woman to bear. You have to consider a total of nine months of meticulous preparation in all aspects such as mentally, physically, emotionally and even physiologically. Not to mention the fact that when you are pregnant, there are so many things you need to avoid only providing the best care for your unborn child. No to alcohol, cigarette, fatty foods, and the list could go on.

Considering all those factors, it is now doubly hard for a pregnant woman when she is under some form of medication. Because there are certain drugs that doctors prohibit for intake when a person is expecting. Take for example the drug Zoloft intended to treat people with some forms of depression like anxiety disorder, panic disorder and even obsessive-compulsive disorder. The Food and Drug Administration classifies Zoloft as a Category C drug. This means that Zoloft belongs to a classification of drugs that were tested on animal fetuses and brought adverse effect. Although not directly tested to humans, but Zoloft’s classification remains a risk for pregnant women to take.

To understand fully the complexities between Zoloft and pregnancy, it is best to consult your caregiver regarding this matter. Up to now, medical experts consider the approach on Zoloft and pregnancy as a person-to-person basis. Everything depends on the ability of the person’s physical aspect to take in anti-depressant drugs without causing much harm to the fetus in the womb. Usually, if the woman persists to taking the drug even if she is heavily pregnant doctors cut dosage intakes with clear understanding from the woman on the risks involve.

Zoloft and pregnancy should be a major consideration for doctors and patients alike. There should be a clear line of communication and mutual agreement to come up with the best solution. That is why; for a pregnant woman to get the best out of her medication without putting further complication to her unborn child must outweigh options available. Doctors could recommend cutting other kinds of medication, strictly following healthy eating habit and staying away from other harmful substances like cigarettes or alcohol.
